About Studio Rick Joy
Studio Rick Joy is an architecture, planning, and interiors practice working from Tucson on projects in different parts of the world. The relationship between program, layout, and context is central when considering services of this kind: spatial decisions need to respond to planned activities, site characteristics, and the needs of people using the facilities.
Its approach pays attention to site observation, precise detailing, and material culture. Tubac House shows how volumes, courtyards, and surfaces can organize a domestic experience connecting distant views, shade, and the particular qualities of a desert landscape. Reviewing references by program and context helps identify which aspects of the practice can respond to the priorities of a particular assignment and its intended users.
An initial inquiry benefits from identifying the building use, location, approximate area, and whether the assignment involves new construction or an existing property. Reviewing comparable projects helps frame a discussion about scope, design stages, and coordination with the specialists required for the proposed work.
