About Vertebral

Vertebral is an architecture studio founded in 2016 by Elias Kalach and Teddy Nanes in Mexico City, recognised by Architectural Digest among the most creative names in Latin America. It understands architecture as intervening in a site to create space not only through walls and slabs but also through shrubs, grasses and trees.

Its works include Casa Erasto in Mexico City, built around a garden with a concrete core, rusted-steel roof and black volcanic stone floor, and Casa Ciempiés in Tulum, a fully timber house raised on columns so vegetation continues underneath. In both, materials are chosen to age alongside the landscape.

The studio also works on community and educational projects such as El Terreno, a community garden and education centre built exclusively from recycled materials from its own earlier constructions. That commitment to biophilia and reuse distinguishes its housing and landscape portfolio.
