About SAC-TUN

SAC-TUN, formerly known as CALICA, is the Mexican subsidiary of Vulcan Materials Company and has operated since 1986 at Punta Venado, Quintana Roo, eight kilometres south of Playa del Carmen. Its stated purpose is to produce high-quality aggregates —mainly crushed stone, sand and gravel— for construction.

Its aggregates are used in highways, bridges, hospitals, schools, airports and virtually any concrete building in the region. Its highest-purity product also serves industrial uses, making it one of the most relevant limestone quarries in the Mexican Caribbean.

The company also operates the Punta Venado Maritime Terminal, which receives the cargo ferries supplying Cozumel and serves regional trade, tourism and industry. From kilometre 282.6 of the Chetumal-Cancún highway it combines production, maritime logistics and conservation and community programmes.
