About S-AR
S-AR is a collaborative alternative architecture workshop founded in Monterrey in 2006, with a project office in San Pedro Garza García and a liaison office in Mexico City. Its work focuses on the design and development of architectural projects of various types and scales.
The studio carries out deep research into the use of materials, appropriate technologies, habitability and the social systems around the act of designing and building. That research-led approach has produced houses, community projects and social architecture, and it underpins the Comunidad Vivex platform for social architecture that S-AR leads.
S-AR has received the Architectural League of New York’s Emerging Voices award and Architectural Record’s Design Vanguard distinction. Its practice in Monterrey is framed by the city’s contrasts between industry, environment and culture, which it treats as complementary rather than opposing conditions.
