Ovako Imatra Oy Ab operates the Imatra steelworks beside Lake Saimaa, where it produces high-tech engineering steels from recycled scrap. Its output is aimed at bars and long products for the transport industry, machinery and components subject to high mechanical stress.
Although its main market is industrial, its steels reach construction through axles, gears, bolts, springs and tools, as well as transmission equipment and special structural components. The M-Steel product developed in Imatra is presented as a steel designed to improve machinability and customer productivity.
The plant, with around five hundred employees, is one of the largest industrial employers in south-east Finland and a major Nordic recycler. For buyers of engineering steel, Ovako Imatra offers traceability, joint development with the customer and production based entirely on recycled scrap.
