About Horcalsa
Horcalsa is Progreso's lime brand, produced industrially at the San Miguel estate in Sanarate and used in construction as well as in sugar mills, shrimp farms, water treatment and the corn-based food industry. It is the group's oldest marketed product, with continuous production since the 19th century.
Lime is not interchangeable without judgement: quicklime, hydrated lime and limes for soil stabilisation behave differently with water and setting. Before specifying, confirm the type, presentation and applicable standard, and do not substitute cement where the design relies on lime's own plasticity and workability.
Store lime in a dry, well-sealed place, as it absorbs moisture and deteriorates easily, and handle it with eye, skin and respiratory protection. A poorly stored batch can look intact while having lost much of its reactivity.
