About Diseño Norteño
Diseño Norteño is an architecture studio founded in Tijuana in 2013 by Mauricio Kuri and Oscar González, both graduates of the Monterrey Institute of Technology. Its work accepts the regional condition that design cannot be separated from construction, local labour and limited budgets.
The studio’s main objective is to question current housing and explore new typologies and ways of dwelling, so young people can access dignified housing inside the metropolitan area rather than in distant peripheries. That exploration has produced more than 30 built single- and multi-family residential projects in Tijuana.
Projects such as Casa LP3, Viviendas Trío and Casa VGA show a practice of compact, well-resolved houses on the city’s hills, using modest materials with care. Diseño Norteño is a key reference for contemporary architecture in Tijuana and the northern border.
