About BAAQ’
BAAQ’ is a Mexico City architecture workshop founded in 2011 by Alfonso Quiñones, focused on rehabilitating older buildings and shaping contemporary living spaces. Its first project, Casa del Río, earned an honourable mention at the Mexican Architecture Biennial and set the tone for a practice interested in rescuing obsolete structures without erasing their past.
The studio works across housing, coastal projects in Oaxaca and urban interventions in the capital, pairing a modern language with vernacular traditions and local materials. Clear volumes, daylight and courtyards that mediate between inside and outside recur throughout its houses and refurbishments.
Over the years BAAQ’ has collected more than a dozen national and international awards and wide coverage in specialist press. Its distinctive stance is to extend a building’s useful life and give it a new purpose rather than replacing it.
